Mavoy Movie Awards 2020
This year, we're finally ahead of the Oscars, and our awards are revealed on the evening of 8th February 2020. We'll be live tweeting the results on our Twitter account @MavoyOfficial, and then we'll premiere them in a separate post.
Our awards are definitely more diverse than the ones presented by the Academy. There are plenty of Afro-American nominees. Asia is represented not only by Parasite, but other international films and Chinese co-production The Farewell. Finally, there are two female directors nominated again. Unfortunately, Marielle Haller missed on a nomination again, together with Lulu Wang, who was at least nominated for a screenplay. As always, our Best Picture nominees are very different than Oscars (I was very dissapointed by potential their winner, 1917, which is only nominated in technical categories). Why do I have a feeling I watched more films than many voters?
All the nominated films and series were premiered between 1 January and 31 December 2019.
I noted where I didn't/couldn't manage to watch the specific film I was interested in. Some could be potentially nominated next year.
