MAVOY MOVIE AWARDS 2021 - NOMINEES

I’m done with moaning about 2020 in cinema. I already listed all the films that were postponed and I won’t be repeating myself. But – judging by the list below, you absolutely wouldn’t say that it was a bad year for film. Bad year for the industry, bad year for the theaters – definitely, though I wouldn’t bet on the death of this particular art yet. Ironically, all the delays I mentioned helped me to focus this year on indie and international cinema – with absolutely delightful results. Three years ago, we didn’t even have “international film” category. Now these films are visible in majority of the categories! And we’re still very ahead of the Oscars in terms of diversity. Just in the director category alone, there’s only one white male nominee! Without even trying!

I’m introducing a few new categories and I hope I’ll be continuing them in the future. I finally had a chance to watch a lot new short films this year. There are also two special categories for films usually underappreciated by the awards – genre films (so, science fiction and horror, mostly) and comedies.

Our awards will be revealed on the evening of 16th April 2021, Central European time. After this specific social media year, I seriously considered doing Instagram stream, but it seems risky for multiple reasons. But, as always, we'll be live tweeting the results on our Twitter account @MavoyOfficial and also on my Instagram stories (@mavoy93), and then we'll premiere them in a separate post here.
